had same problem with mine, just let it stay that way. Looks alright in my opinion and isn't THAT noticeable. Granted if I had more time I would probably just make a custom speaker grille that would cover it all, but it's not a high priority.

How did you get that in there? That is exactly what I need to do. My problem is that the actual plate is too big to fit inside the cutout in the upholstry. Did you modify something?

Thanks

If i let them stick out a 1/4" and put the stock grills over them, it doesn;t look to bad since the spakers have black plates, so i can live with that.
yeah that's what i ended up doing. i don't think it looks bad at all, and the alpines sound a hell of a lot better than those stock cardboard looking things that were in there originally. and i agree on the tweeters being on top.

I think I did it by popping the door panel loose at the bottom then sliding the speaker in kinda sideways. Put a couple of screws in the top to hold the speaker while you re-secure the door panel.

I did exactly what Slevy did. Just unscrew and easily pop the bottom of the door panel out. You should probably unscrew your window switch plate so that you won't risk creasing the door panel. Slide in the speaker attach with screws and re-do the panel. Took less than 10 minutes per side and I'm slow.

Yes it buldges a little but it looks better with the screens against the door panel. Funny thing, you'll notice it more when you wipe down your panels with the shiny stuff than any other time. Do it and see if it suffices for you.

BTW, do not over tighten your screens. They are old and brittle.

DO you think this will damage the door panel or stretch it out?

If it does stretch it won't be by very much. At some time in the future you go back with OEM sized speakers then when you screw the screens down it should fit right back to original. On mine, albeit Blaupunkts, it doesn't bulge out very much.

So you did this with plate speakers, or non plates? And you have to remove the whole door panel or just the bottom?

Thanks

Non-plates but they were approx. same size and thickness as yours, i.e. they were too big to go through the hole unless tilted. I poped the whole panel out. Just be very very careful on the back edge of the door. Get a wide screwdriver and cover the edge with a layer of masking tape (or duct tape) and gently pry up at the plastic pop spots. Pry slightly on each side of the pop rivet like thing.

Ok, i'm probably gonna go with your idea. I am rewiring all the speakers, so I should have the door panels off anyway. I'll post some pics when I'm done.
