good elec connection points for gauges?
tried a search but clearly not using a good search string.
I am installing a boost gauge and a wide band AFR gauge on the A pillar.
saw the post about removing the headlight switch and made me think of posting this question.
what I need is a switched HOT and a hot lead when lights are on.
dash opened up and have access to gauge pod, along with the DME/KLR out and the Pass foot well all opened up.
suggestions on an EASY location for these?

What about tapping the gauge backlighting? I know on early cars it comes on with the lights. Don't know many details for late cars, other than you might need to up-rate the associated fuse.
I just installed a voltmeter the other day, and the best areas to tap seemed to be associated with the gauges and their backlighting.

What gauges will you be using? Are they analog?
On a 86 951 I am using a pair of digital AEM vacuum/boost and AFR wideband guages that self adjust their brightness based on available ambient lighting. I tapped them into the switched 12V on the stereo wiring and they are mounted in the A pillar. iIt has worked well for me since install about 6 months ago.
Cheers.

I have an autometer vac/boost gauge and an innovate motorsport wideband AFR gauge.
don't know if either autodim. from my brief review of the install docs, each needs a switched hot and a second feed that is hot when the lights are on. not even sure either would react well to a modulated light power source that goes through the car's dimmer.
appreciate any info, and if possible provide a pic or detailed description of where I would find the power source. and in full disclosure, I am red/green color blind.

I think both are available at stereo but I didn't bother looking for back light connection as I fitted a switch so I can dim it when I want. I prefer this as I sometimes have lights/parkers on in daytime but don't want gauge dim.
