Door Speaker Deal - Audiobahn
#34
I tried again last night. Stupid OEM grille wont budge!
At least I managed to install the new door and hatch seals.
I may have to pull the metal part of the grilles off to access the 4 screws that hold the speakers in. I ASSUME I can pull the metal off!
Did you get your speakers yet??

My speakers just showed up, so I am going to see how it goes tonight, I have the screw off grills so it should be fast.
I hate replacing the hatch seal! just did mine a couple of months ago.

What was annoying about doing the hatch seal: there was a lot of glue/putty from the old one. So, when I was pushing the new seal around and around, the putty would of course get all over the place, and all over the new seal! I had to go back and clean off the new seal to get rid of the off-white putty stains! Arrggggg!

OK, Installed the speakers.
They do not cover the holes in the door panel all that well but I will work on that. I had NO problems with depth at all.
They could look better but, I have to say, they sound SO much better than the 6 year old Sony's that they replaced it's not funny! XM sounds awesome.
I may have to get a set for the rears.

Glad to hear there are no depth problems...any way to move the speaker over at all?? That space there in the corner would annoy me!
Oh! Just realized you installed them in the 911. I bet the grilles are a different size than in the 944?

No! i installed them in my 951!! Not the 911.
That space in the corner is annoying but you cant see it when the doors closed
I dont see a way to cover it, the hole is wider.

So, I was finally able to remove the driver side door speaker...had to totally break the grille to get it off. The P/O must have crazy-glued it on! The passenger side popped right off with very little prodding. The paper OEM speakers were SO shot...holes and missing foam. Horrors!
Anyway, I installed the Audiobahns. I think the Blau PCXi's sounded better. These are detailed, but very bright, IMHO. I should have snapped a few pics...mine are a little better sized for the speaker hole in the door, but not much.
I may keep them, I may buy the Blaus again....

I would agree these are bright and they are not all that efficient.
Wonder why yours fit better? I would think our door panels are the same?
Problem is now my rears sound awful, I have to replace them as well.
Should I do another set of the Audiobahns or something else?
Andy, snap a pic!

I'll snap a photo tonight.
I hate bright speakers in a 944, specially since we have limited bass from the small speakers as it is!
I may have to change them out...if you want them for the rears...I'll give you a great deal on em?
