How do you like your new top-end. Mine was rebuilt last Oct. with new cams, I love it. Still working on finding another AFM to take the internals out of, ATM I have to use one brush between the two 944's. I'm getting to be an expert at removing those things!

''If you're fond of left foot braking in a turn don't ever drive a 911 at its limits....''

I know...

I can pull 8's in the quarter with my busted A$$ N/A. The secret is a really big jet engine attached to the sunroof. When the engine rips the roof off of my car I have to run down track and push my car the extra two seconds. Don't get me started on the track. I take a new Dodge Ram pickup with the 5.7L Hemi. I attach two tow hooks to each bumper shock and pull that biznatch succesfully around the corners. Unfortunately for the turbos racing me, when my N/A goes sliding around the corners, I take them out in the process.

IIRC when I last browsed through my 944S owner's manual, there were hp/torque graphs printed for 8-valve N/A, 16-valve S and 8-valve turbo... and surprisingly, at least if I read it correctly, the 16-valve S actually has just a bit more torque than the 8-valve N/A until 4krpm, and from there on the difference is much more pronounced.

I haven't actually driven an 8-valve N/A, but the S I had sure didn't feel like it was lacking in the low rpm torque... and besides, there's a gear stick available, and the ratios are surprisingly well matched to the power band.

That said, I just took a few laps at a local track and the difference between the previous car and the new turbo was rather dramatic; 1.55/lap to 1.47/lap ... eight seconds off just like that. The turbo has weltmeister front springs, otherwise the suspension setups were similar... but I'm not a good driver by any means so don't draw any conclusions ok

Hey SimonK, quit bashing those n/a's.
944 is a great car in any form.
No point of teasing and arguing, who's got the torque, power etc.
They are all Porsche's and at least I love 'em all !

Yeah, I cast another vote for assclown. The 944 S absolutely flies at 4k RPM, and is a very fun car to drive.

Why did this turn out to be an arguement. Yes the S2 is faster than a S and a turbo is faster than an S2. But weren't they built that way. I am more than happy with my S, Which by the way does not pull as well as a NA
below 2k but is clearly more power beyond that.

Simon, we all agree with you-the 951S's are the fastest of the Audi built waterpumpers!

I read my owner's manual as well and thought the same thing?Didn't Porsche produce the "S" model for more horsepower then the 944 and give it better handling and breaking making it more the sport version and the 944 as more touring? From what I have read here it seems the rear ends are a little more robust too?
We are all lucky to own one to brag about

I read my owner's manual and it said that I should hook a jet engine to the roof to post better 1/4 mile times. With that said, Porsche also recommended beating the person who invented 4 wheel steering over the head with a rusty transaxle.

I'm still wondering where I said my car was faster then a turbo....nevermind I didn't say it anywhere. Great job.

Of course an S2 is faster then an S, but the regular NA is not faster then an S. No possible way, there's one of each in my driveway. BTW anybody in FL looking for a nice Turbo? I know of someone...

Absolutely flies above 4K is it?

Save up for an S2 or Turbo and drown your sorrows with Robert D.

This is what you said;

I was backing up the fact that you SHOULD not dog a car for having less torque then your own...given that a properly set up suspension on a 944S or any car (even 914, 912, 924) has potential to beat a 944 Turbo on an AutoX.

How can you say that if we have - 2 equal drivers; one in a lower powered car 924 let's say, one in the higher powered car 944S2 let's say - that the one in a lower powered car has the potential to beat the other.

You really are a ********!
