Default Not my lucky day

This morning I headed up to The big gathering in Massachussets. Well lets say the drive didn't go as planned. Just as I got on the NJ parkway I got a flat tire. No biggie, I carry a tire plugging kit and air compressor with me. Around exit 140 a truck carrying gravel drove by and dumped a hand full all over my FRESH 3,000 USD paintjob (I just got it back thursday). Then near the NY boarder my fuel pump dies out. I had the car towed to the nearest Foreign auto parts store, but had to wait until 2 pm for them to have the pump delivered to them. 200 USD later (I know, rip off!) I was back on my way, only I decided to head home. I have some pics of the car that I took friday, I'll try to post them tomorrow.

Unfourtunatly Im going to have to have the whole front nose and hood re done. Since paint wasn't fully cured yet the rocks caused some major gauges.

Well, you didn't get stuck too badly on the fuel pump... the best price I could find was $140 or so at Vertex. Less than 50% markup for "I need a fuel pump, I'm stuck on the side of the road" is not too too bad.

Forget my ragging on you, I hadn't read this. Sorry to hear of your problems! The only problem I had was the power amp shutting down after cranking the stereo with the top down for hours-it would cool down and start right up.

Did you keep the blue or change color on the car?

Actually I loved the blue so much, I decided I would have It re done. This time I made a point of there being a primer coat or two, at least one clear coat, and no drips or hairs stuck in there! The car looked factory.

I'll try to post pics soon.

Wow Christian...your car looks sweet (cept for the rock problems)! A serious $3k paint-job...can't believe it!

What made you go all-out with the paint? I know the car's paint before the job was marginal...? Talk about bad timing...truck and all. Sorry about that. Hopefully, the shop you got it painted at will give you a deal on a re-spray.

Did they put the "Porsche" decal on the back? Looks like they painted the door handles(or are they 968 handles), and the windshield washer nozzels? It looks great! Did you also re-finish your phone dials??

It;s a lot darker in person, and you can not see the metallic in these photos. Oops.

Actually, Like before I asked to have the door handles and nozzles to be sprayed ! Call me crazy but I like it that way. I did the dials myself, I picked up a pneumatic spray gun at sears and some aluminum rustoleum, came out okay. I can't wait to see your (Andy's) and Damien's car in person!

Christian,
Did you get the liscence # of the truck that dumped the gravel. Trucking companies usually have insurance that will cover these types of actions(and sometimes I believe that they are required to by law).

Usually if you call them and explain that they were trucking gravel without it being properly secured they will have their insurance cover the damage. At least this is my understanding, I could be totally wrong.

Sorry about the day, you will get a good day soon :-)

Peter
