Depending on if you and your son may want to autocross or DE the car eventually you may want to look into the Spec-944 suspension setup.

The Koni Shock value sale has started so that will help in the bang for buck department:

We'll have some adjustment on the Spec Kits shortly.

+1! I got the Koni yellows all around on my 85.5 NA 944. That and refreshed rubber bushings made me feel like I just drove it off the lot. After 3 years, I had to re-learn how to drive this car.

So, I'd say that and brakes. . .as long as the belts/rollers are ok first. ;-)

Given the intended use, tired suspension, and the 'cost effective' guidance - I would recommend replacing all the wear items on the car. Basically bring it back to original.

This will include all new rubber bushings, ball joints, tie rods, shocks. All these parts are pretty cost effective. If you want a modest performance update, we offer the rubber bushings in a sport hardness as an option.

Most of these items are available from our Navigator. Contact me if you's like help with the rest.
