Default Just changed the transaxle fluid to Redline MT90

Noticed an immediate difference in the 1-2 and 3-2 shifts - no longer "notchy" and much smoother engagement. Yeah, I made sure I could get the top fill plug out first!

Easy to access to get the plugs out - I used some degreaser and my 1200 psi power washer on it yesterday to get rid of the caked grease and crud around those plugs. Picked up a great 17mm long hex 1/2" drive socket for $10 from the local auto tool supply - can't imagine trying to get those out with a 6" allen key either.

In anycase, an easy re & re - using my Mity Vac pump (no A-P jokes Sandor). Used my magnetic pick up to fish around inside the transaxle case when nothing showed up in the drained fluid. There were some very fine shavings - all steel, and nothing in brass I could find in the case. At least no gear teeth!

I don't know what was in there before, but it was brownish-red, not clear at all like most heavy gear oil, but clean and no "burned" smell!

Thanks to Skip for the advice!

Hey Randy,
I made the same call about 3 weeks ago after talking to Redline. How much fluid were you able to get in there? I got a hair over 2 bottles and then recently read that it holds about 2 and 2/3's.

Sorry guys!! Tom you are correct - fast drive to Whistler last night in relatively light traffic at midnight. Lots of traffic coming back late in the afternoon today, but then dropping into 3rd or 4th and spooling up that turbo..... well, you get the idea! What a great car for these roads!

Back to Kevin M's question - I got 2.5 bottles of that Redline MT90 into the transaxle. I let it drain completely for about 1 hour, as I wanted to replace the dino fluid that was in there.

Shifting is so much better - smoother action hot or cold and not "notchy" anymore!
