Default 944/968 balance shaft question

Does anyone know if the 2.5 balance shafts are different than the 3.0?

They are the same per the parts manual for the 3.0 and late 951.

So I would be safe to assume that the covers and housings are the same I guess. Thanks for the info

Not all balance shafts are the same. PET shows p/n 944 102 201 07 for 1983-84, 944 102 923 00 for 1985-1995 2.5L and 3.0L, and 944 102 023 01 for the 1989 2.7L.

There was also a change in the cover design. Early engines had a bearing caps on the BS, late engines had the bearing cap integrated with the cover.

I'm sure you know that you can't swap late BS covers - they're matched with the block they came on.

Why do you ask?
