Rod bearing advice

The oil pressure is not a sure fire indicator for the condition of your rodbearings. I have replaced rod bearings in 2 of my engines , 944 '86 at approx 260,000 km's. I just decided to do it and I found, in both cases that 2 of the 4 rod I bearings had just about worn through the bearing metal. I was able to see contact with the underlying steel. Both of hose engines had lots of starts, and short driving distances in their lives.
In both cases, the oil pressure was fine: 1.5 bar at idle and 4.5 at 2500 RPM.

I've seen posted before that if the oil pressure gets as low as 2 bar or lower (hot oil at idle) that this is an indication of worn bearings. So your case of 1.5 bar is well below what I understand to be the low limit indicating a need for bearings.

You know, if your in any sort of doubt, just do them and at 150K you should be doing them. I did my S @ 160kish and they were really getting down there and 1 and 4 of mine had worn through. I got to it just in time
Listen to hicks, he had to buy the motor from my 924s because of his incident. Buy the glyco's, new rod nuts, an oil pan gasket, assembly lube and the harbor freight engine support bar to hold the motor while crossmember is out and have at it. You'll need an alignment when your done, so its also a good time for the 968 caster blocks and anything else that would require an alignment. You can do this in your garage easily so don't be intimidated, just give yourself time to do it right and you'll be fine. It's really pretty easy and a hell of a lot cheaper than grenading the motor.
