What kind of oil should I run for my new engine break in? I know I should not run synthetic already but need to know what kind of regular oil I need to use and where I can get it at.
Thanks

I believe the spec is SAE 30. Not sure on grade/ manufacturer preference.
I'm pretty sure dino oil is suggested on first oil during 500 mile break in due to- 1. it's cheap. 2. You are gonna change it after the first 500 miles of running.
and no hi- revving the new baby Dan!!
Congrats !!!

Hi,
I'm from the 928 board - I hope you don't mind my input
I suggest that you use a normal mineral oil - a 15w-40 SH/SJ-CD/CF spec. This is really only to get rid of assembly debris and to assist in the bed-in process - which you will primarily do by driving it appropriately
You could use a synthetic too - many manufacturers do - but personally I would'nt
Best of luck

i forgot what kind of material it is but with certain blocks it is ok to use synthetic oil to begin with. On aluminum blocks though, I believe that the dino is preferred for the first few oil changes as it helps seat the piston rings better than synthetic oil. Sorry, but I don't know what is the preferred weight.

the shop that rebuilt my head & motor put 20/50 in. i was told to change it at about 1000 miles with dino, and after 3000 more miles put the synthetic in.

20/50 Castrol is in mine. Changed oil and filter after 100 miles, again after 1500, and will switch to synthetic at 3000. It's a good idea to cut open the filter just to check.
All is good so far. You do not want any detergents or addatives in what ever oil you use. I went with the slightly heavier oil because of the added heat from the tight tolerances of a fresh motor.
