Default a/c recharge question

So I had a local mechanic recharge the a/c with r12 alternative. So now when I have the a/c on and the compressor kicks in, it kicks in hard. it affects my driving, idling and oil pressure. I am afraid it might seize as I have been w/o a/c for an unknown numbe rof years. Also, he did not add oil to the compressor when adding refrigerant. I am hesitant to run the compressor again as i am afraid it will seize from a lack of oil...

Am I paranoid or should I insist that oil be added to the system. The mechanic says it could be that the symptoms are from a lack of use and I just need to run the a/c some more for it flow better.

Please advise. TIA

9 Times out of ten the refrigerant allready has the oil within it. What type of r12 equivalent did you opt for? Freeze12, Duracool???? I wouldn't be worried about it siezing as these compressors have refrigerant sensors and won't run without refrigerant in the. Hard starting could be from a bad A/C clutch, or just that it hasn't been run for a while. Remember allways let your a/c run for at leat 10 minutes every month.
