Default Manual Steering Rack on 1986 944 Turbo?

Today I scored a manual rack + intermediate shaft off a 1983 parts car. I wiped away the grease to discover it has the 015 part number, so it's a sport rack and is indeed 3.5 turns lock to lock (as opposed to 4).

Few questions about tie rod ends, intermediate shaft play, and fitment.

86 turbos are early offset, right? If yes, will this be a direct fit? Just need to be sure.

Does anyone know the best place to get manual rack tie rod ends? I need the kind with MALE threads that go into the rods. How about from McMaster-Carr? Anyone? I now about zim's and paragon, but there must be a better option for price. Thanks, the help is very appreciated.

Here is a picture of the kind I need...

I'd also be happy to get the VW complete tie rod assemblies if the price is right, but which ones are they???

Now I am wondering, is Van still able to rebuild intermediate shaft? There is a little play in one of the joints, maybe a 1/2 mm of space, so how much is OK?

Thanks again and happy driving.

Here's an 015 on my 86 if it helps in identifying parts. I could probably find the invoice for what tie-rods and ends I used...eventually. However it is well documented on this site...somewhere...try a search.

As to the intermediate shaft I went new but I'm sure they are nla now. I didn't want any play in my steering and figured it can only get worse with use. It's steering and I didn't want to lose it one day! I'd get it rebuilt and be safe.

Those look like the same tie rod ends as the '83, from that picture. Although I may be mistaken.

Thanks for your post. I realized it's best to go with a reputable tire rod end, so I'll probably get TRW, which pelican sells/ has sold. Also, I'm now pretty sure all '86 944s had early offset, so this rack should fit without modifying it.

Like you suggested, I would like to have it rebuilt, even though the play is really small. Suggestions for rebuilders?

Btw, it seems you have tie rod assemblies from a power rack? or the vw parts.
