I know there are a ton of threads on this topic, but I figured I'd throw my situation out as there are a few odd details that might lead to a quick solution.

First off, my car is a 1986 944 track car with a MSD 6AL Ignition, and a switch in the cabin that will shut off fuel.

Usually, the car fires up immediately, even when sitting for a week or two at a time.

Today, I was unloading the car after a successful weekend at the track.

Initially, it didn't start. I noticed I had switched off the fuel in the cabin, so I turned the switch on, and it started right up.

I backed it off the trailer, let it idle for a few minutes, then shut it off. About an hour later, I hopped in to put it in the garage, and it wouldn't start. It turns over strong, the tach needle bounces, but it doesn't fire up. It sounds just like how it did when the fuel switch was off....

Does anyone have a troubleshoot list of where I should start? I haven't had this car very long, so I'm still green when it comes to troubleshooting.

 

Start with the simple things...

-Are you sure it has gas?
-Do you hear the fuel pump?
-Can you put a pressure tester on the fuel rail to make sure it has fuel pressure?

If all that checks out, then start chasing spark...
-Put a timing light on a spark plug wire and see if it fires

 

Jumpered out my DME relay....put it in...about 10 seconds later I heard the fuel pump kick on and the car started.
