I never liked the windows on my Fox bodied Mustang convert. The rattled, squaked, leaked and whistled in the wind. and the pull-up type of door handles were prone to breaking as well. Dam near ripped a finger off when one broke in my hand as I opened the door on a very cold day.

a positive about our door handles.. they dont ice shut and freeze closed. Only those of us who drive in winter would know that little convenience.

Er excuse me? The hell you say. They don't freeze shut, they freeze open. Almost as bad.

Yup - I even put a blank piece of hard plastic on my keychain so I could pry the thing out everytime I needed to close the door.

But I'm from Canada and we all know it's so cold up here that you can get your tongue stuck to the air if you're not careful!!!

Now compare that to a 996, looks like a whole different car. The Boxster fits in just because the 996 & Boxster are meant to look similar (which is the first inspiration I don't know).

End result, the new cars aren't meant to follow the styling cues of their grandparents, but more that of a modern car. My vote, styling.
The 996 seems a logical progression to myself. And I always hate new model cars when they first come out. Ask a 10 year old girl what kind of car just drove by next time you see a 996 and she'll know it was a Porsche. Isn't that the point?

I bet the new door handles work better. I've seen car doors that were as much of a pain in the *** to open as my 944 and my buddy's old Golf.

No, I'm not saying I'd rather have the new handles.

Can you spell FUGLY!!! I had a '98 528i sport - a truly beautiful car, and cannot imagine what he was thinking in designing the new car - hit with a Fugly Stick!
I really like Mr. Bangle's design. It makes the car look mych more flowing and smooth vs. the older designs.

I was waiting to say but maybe they changed the outer handle design because it was: A) ugly until 968 B) broke frequently C) can be a royal pain the a*s to open if not properly lubricated D) all of the above. Anyone who wants them can have them after I have done the 968 swap.

The new handles are plain and boring but I have never fallen in love with a car because of its door handles. Thats like saying the first thing I noticed about her was a sparkling personality or her great shoes. Hopefully, there is a lot sexier bit to look at than the door handles :?)
