im probably running about 18 octane. the car has sat for about a year on a 1/4 tank , i know i shoulda filled it but i didnt know that when i parked it
now the cars back together, the oil was hella sludgey so i changed that, and ima bout to put in 100 octane racing fuel for about 3.99 a gallon. i m gunna fill it, am i gunna blow it up?

I usually use 93 or 94 octane depending on the station.
I have ran 16ish lbs of boost on 87 octane before (ran out of gas), didn't detect any knock, it was a somewhat cool spring night though. I think I will be running 89 when I take long trips from now on, keeping the boost down.

Highest I can get - around here it's labelled 91. Don't forget, though, that courtesy of our ever-truthful governments, 91 doesn't mean 91. Companies are required to reduce octane in hot weather to limit evaporation. For a while, one local chain (Pioneer) changed their signs seasonally - 93 winter 91 summer - then the feds told them that was against some regulation or other, so now they just list 91.

I am currently running 18 to 20psi of boost on my street only car. Since I only drive it 5,000 mile a year, I can afford the $4.00 a gallon 100 octane fuel from Union 76. Not so cheap insurance to keep my head gasket safe. And the car sure is fun at 20psi!
Lately I have been mixing toluene and my seat of the pants dyno says, my engine likes the toluene better than the Union 76. And the toluene exhaust does not smell as strong as the race gas blend.
Anyone got any comments on the corrosive nature of 100 race gas or toluene? I purchased a clear plastic gas container at a motorcycle shop, to store the toluene. It has graduated measure's on the side of the container which is good for accurate dispensing, but the toluene has melted the plastic ball valve shut just like glue would. I wonder what the toluene is doing to my fuel system rubber? Lately I have noticed some fuel smell in the cabin.
