Default Tach bounce 6k RPM? lol

So, I have heard of getting a tach bounce but why is my tachometer going up to 6k RPM? I didn't start my 944 for a couple weeks and it got really cold, might have killed a cell in my 3-4 year old battery. I think the clock was off too, everything was dead, lights etc. Gave it a little juice but still no start, seems like the starter was making a *whrrrr* sound but not enough power to get it going?
Also, the battery was at 9.6V

if you have a dead battery, why, oh why, are you risking damage to the car, the starter, and other expensive stuff instead of fixing the battery?

Well, obviously, I didn't know it was a dead battery until after I tried to start it. doh. (dead as in a bad cell)

It was down to 9.2, I had already removed the quick disconnect. Guess I'll see if it will recharge

Charged it for 2 hours, started right up! Oddly enough my volt gauge started working again...

if it showed a bad cell, don't leave it in the car, I have had some bad experiences (not on a 944) with a bad battery destroying the alternator, then the bad alternator destroys the battery - I went through two of each before I just changed them both together, and it's been fine since. The 944 alternator seems much better, but why risk it

I was just assuming it could have had a bad cell, looks like everything turned out great and my 944 is working well.
