Default help, 944 sunroof stuck open during winter

Hello, My 1985 944 seems to have a broken sunroof. When I attempt to open or close it, i can hear the motor moving but it kind of sounds like gears slipping. My sunroof is stuck in the open positioin and it is winter here in MI so could anybody please help me asap on whether this is a problem i can fix or will have to replace the sunroof....And if so when can i find one. Thank you for your time,
Adam

Probably the gears that lift the roof are stripped. Common problem. Take the header panel off where the sun roof lifts to access the gears. You might be able to match up a good part of the stripped gear with the lift rod to hold it closed until you can get new gears.

Yeah probably stripped gears. I had a similar problem when I first bought mine and just replaced all of it with latches. If you want to keep the powered roof you might want to look into getting a set of brass gears made to replace those POS plastic ones that came with the car.

Are the control bars retracted all the way back into the car or does are they pushed up so the back of the sunroof is cracked open?

Time to go manual and never worry about it again. Search for: Manual Sunroof Latches. Should be $50-$100.

Convert to manual levers and never look back. You can fix the gears you have but don't be surprised when they strip again. Simplicity is the key. Only Porsche could use 46 moving parts to raise the SR an inch.
