Question Wiring for central locking

My car didn't come with central locking and I would like to install it. I've looked in the doors and there doesn't seem to be the wiring to hook the motors up. Does anyone know if all the 944s had the wiring already installed and you just have to find it?

Mark,

I hope to do the same thing. If I remember correctly, looking at the PET, there are 2 different wiring harnesses available in the door, one with central locking and one without. Haven't yet looked into the center console wiring to see what the story is there.

Let me know what you find out.

I had to run new wires into the 944NA - none in that harness. Check the PET wiring diagrams, as there appears to be a lot of variations over the years.

I think you'll also need some microswitches in your door locks and stuff like that...

I've got the central locking wiring & other stuff (taken out of some S2) in a box at home, and there's a lot of it for sure!! I'm not sure if I'll ever install it, looks like an absolute pain in the ***...

Randy_J

So you did this project? Can you give me a quick idea of whats involved.

I'm guessing that there is some sort of motor/actuator for each lock...

If i remember correcltly (from looking at my '83 Euro about 18 months ago) it's situated at the bottom of the door, vertically beneath the lock.

There's also a switch in the console...and i guess some sort of brain/relay somewhere?

Bought a power lock kit from Performance Prod on sale (OK, I know that is an oxymoron....) but for $90, it came with EVERYTHING, the power actuators (identical to the Porsche ones from what I have seen), relays, wiring kits, switches, cable ties, etc. etc. etc.

I think Paragon products has several versions of this kit for around $100, and it is well worth it. The wiring harness alone made it worthwhile. Plus I was able to hook it up with the Clifford alarm I installed at the same time, so now I have remote locking, speed sensitive locking, auto lock / unlock with ignition on / off, etc. Oh, all that went into my son's 944NA. My 951 came with the crappy factory locks, and I don't have the patience to decipher the wiring on that yet!

I bought the kit from Performance Prod but haven't installed it yet. I also have a set of used lock motors from an '89 944. It doesn't look as though my car is wired so I think I'll go ahead and install the aftermarkets. Randy how hard was installing the alarm system in your car? I also bought an alarm system but I've been quoted almost $300 to have it installed.
