While reading the Volvo boards, I came upon a discussion of Auto-Rx, engine flush/treatment.
Supposedly you just put the stuff into your oil and it should remove the varnish, sludge and sirt inside the engine. This sounds too good to be true, is it? The high-mileage Volvo people swear by it. I know that you could get perhaps the same cleansing effect using synthetics, but it just takes longer.

Any opinions? The story about the 4-Runner Toyota Engine seems almost too good to be true. Remember this isn't some teflon addititive like slick 50, but a product to cleanse the engine, any opinions? Short of a tear-down and using elbow grease what would be a way to clean-off old deposits inside an engine?
