Default clutch/driveline chatter

Need some help on my 87 944 turbo. I hear a chatter while decelerating with the clutch in or out in neutral. No noise under load or while decelerating with the car in gear. The noise is most predominate under 30 mph. I noticed the noise got worse when I kept the clutch in while decelerating and placing the shifter in 1st or 2nd. When idling with the clutch out I can hear the noise but it is quite. When the clutch is pushed in at a stand still the noise almost disappears.

I don't know how old the clutch is but it dose not slip at all. The car has 170k on it. I have had it for three years and put 15k on it with some aggressive driving and three DE events. The previous owner babied the car and never abused it. I know the clutch was definitely replaced around 100k but I don't now after then.

What could this be? I hope it is not the clutch because I know it is a major pain in the *** and I don't have the time to replace it or the money to spend to have a shop do it. I hope it is something simple like loose shifter linkage.

The noise is most likely the throw out bearing. I'm sorry to say it's probably clutch time.

I thought it could be the throw out bearing to. Well now I just have to find time. What is a good clutch to use? I saw that Lindsey has the new spec clutches and I was thinking of using stage 3 or 4. Should I get a lightened flywheel? I also saw on huntley racing the ultimate race clutch package and that is tempting because it comes with everything and a lightened flywheel. I plan on keeping this car for a long time and see many more DE events in it's future.
