so i get my car back from paint (absolutely beautiful) to find a friggin ant farm under my hood!! they set up home between the fuse box and the battery (under that water shield). whats the safest way (for the car) to get rid of them? chemical bomb , raid spray? i just dont want to hurt the engine.

I don't know if this'll hurt in that area, but boiling water is the best way to get rid of ants. Just make sure you have enough to get to the queen. Once the queen is a crispy critter, the rest are goners as well. I've used this technique for years in my yard. Works like a charm

Use a shop vacuum, then when you've sucked 'em all out. Open the Vac and Raid them.

Or, if you have access to a giant magnifind glass...

thanx...i didnt know about the water part, i mean they're under this plastic shield that i thought was meant to keep water out of this area?
