engines can be heated to 300++ degrees safely when oil is flowing through the crankcase,
and water through the jackets.
the engine featured in this thread was heated to over 1 million degrees....

There should be lots of great parts still salvageable. It's easier to see the condition up close than in the pictures, but I think all of the following parts should be fine:
- Probably the engine - I'm not sure what my boss has planned but I'm sure he will take it to the engine shop to get spec'd out to see if it's usable.
- Maybe the 6-speed trans
- Supercharger and bracket
- Intercooler and hard pipes
- All four wheels
- Brake calipers, rotors, spindles, hubs
- Sway bars
- Front lowering springs, camber plates
- Maybe the strut bar
- Radiator
- Fenders (just need sanding and repaint)
- Maybe the front bumper cover
I'm sure as we tear apart the car, we will find that some parts are actually destroyed and some parts are surprisingly in good shape

I think engine should be more or less undamaged. This looks like fuel reservoir fire so gearbox is probably toast.
I would buy it too.

ok, let's bet.
I'm surprised there are so many pessimists about this car. You all would probably say the same thing about a wrecked car. You see only the value in this car as a whole instead of the value of it in parts. I don't know what you are all comparing it to in your minds... An average condition 968? Get real.
Look at my list of potentially perfectly salvageable parts again, and tell me what you think the value's would be if cleaned up and sold individually. Then try to blab again about how worthless you think this car is.

Upon close inspection the fire really didn't affect the engine area too bad. There are lots of plastic and rubber pieces all over that did not get burnt, so I'm trying to be optimistic about the long block.
We will just have to find out.
In other news.... Does anyone recognize this car? An old picture maybe? Anything at all would be interesting and/or helpful.

I agree on the engine. It think a large part of it should be salvageable.

Elliott, I am sure the buyer of this car knew what they were looking at, there are quite a few nice parts left to salvage.
Also I am racking my brain trying to find this car. I know I have seen it before.

So, just spent WAAAY too much time searching the internets for this car. No joy. I don't think anybody will be able to find this car on the internet without more info.
I did, however, find some GORGEOUS 968 Turbo S replicas.
