Default question regarding attaching the door trim on my 944

my 97 NA has the slick doors without the door guard trim. I just purchased the 6 piece set (salvaged) from a fellow rennlister which I am going to paint and install this weekend. a couple of pieces looked like they were glued on with a black silicon edhesive, the rest looked like a double sided foam tape was used. what is the best way to attach? trim adhesive, some 3M heavy duty double sided foam tape or a silicon adhesive? thanks

I'd avoid silicone. Either the double sided extreme tape or weatherstrip adhesive. If in doubt, call a responsible auto body shop and see what they use. If you go w/liquid adhesive, I'd recommend blue taping the piece in place, then blue tape masking the entire length (top and bottom) of the bumper strip so if you have any adhisive squirting out, you can leave it until it's real tacky and then pull the tape off. Otherwise when you're trying to clean off the stuff with a solvent, you'll likely ruin the paint. Also, you'll need to apply the strip when the sealant is slightly set up and hold in place with lots of tape so it doesn't look like a winding road after it's installed. This is why I'd go with the double sided tape. Good luck.

Factory attachment was a double sided tape that ran the perimeter of the strip, and then a black adhesive was used in the center to hold it. The rivet on the door should be plastic.

I believe you can still purchase the items from the dealer.

Use a Snap Line to make sure the trim will be level from Front Fender to Rear Fender. Use 3M Trim Adhesive Tape to apply to Bumper Strip. Clean area for strip with alcohol.

Cheers,

Walmart or any automotive store will have the trim tape.
