Default Question about cap on backside of camshaft cover

I've got oil leaking from the cap on the backside of my camshaft cover (1987 924S). The three 10mm bolts that hold the cap on were a bit loose, and I tightened them. That may solve the problem. However, I'm wondering if I should remove the cap and replace the gasket.

Can I remove this cap (part # 928 105 153 04) and change the gasket without messing up the timing or any other crap? It looks like a no-brainer to just take it off, but I want to be sure.

Removing the cap will not mess with anything. Good luck reaching the bolts. Make sure you don't over tighten them. The cam tower strips easily. Ask me how I know....

No issues to remove it and replace the seal. Make sure you clean the surfaces well before putting the new cork gasket on.

I personally prefer these over those POS cork gaskets.

usually, tightening the bolts fixes the problem, and usually there is no need to change the seal.
