I've seen two complete coilover kits on the net; Koni 28 series from Paragon Products ($$$$) and Bilstein Escort Cup from Lindsey Racing ($$).
Web pages are at:
http://www.smartcart.com/Paragon/cgi...tem_num=Koni28
http://www.lindseyracing.com/944sus10.htm

(better grab a good hold of your seat before checking the prices)

There are more options available for sure, but I think it's going to cost you quite a bit in any case.

I've got original Sachs Sport shocks in front on my 951, coupled with weltmeister #250 springs (~1 inch drop)... and it's very, *very* good. If you're just looking to lower your car slightly and not go crazy with stiffening things up, I'd say just get the springs.

I wouldnt see just buying the muffler. Get the piping too. $600 doesnt just get you a polished muffler and a tight sound. You get massive weigh reduction as well. The whole cat-back packaged up, sealed, and in a huge box...weighed in at UPS at a whopping 12lbs !!!! TWELVE POUNDS!!!!!!!!! Do you know how much the stock weighs???? At least 50lbs if not more. The bottom piece in the picture i believe is a straight pipe. You dont get that piece. Just the bent one and the muffler/tip. Its construction is great and it fit perfectly. If you want listen to my clip in my signature. Thats the SFR just revved a few times from a standstill. I recommend listening through high-end headphones, or audiophile speakers w/ a sub cause i recorded it pretty high and forgot most people are pressed for polished sound. Oh, SFR also offers a different design too. They made mine look like stock since i didnt want the circle.

the thing is i'm a somewhat broke college kid (only cuz i spend most of my money on my girl and my car) so i want to improve the car's handling without spending a grand or so on suspension upgrades. Could i get away with just buying these springs (would be about 200 bucks) or should i save up a while and go ahead with four shocks?

i'm still hoping someone knows a place where i can get a set of four coilovers for the 944 too, thanks
You don't need rear coilovers to lower the car. In fact this the most costly method of doing so.

Best thing is to get better handling and a lowering effect is to get 250 lowering springs in front new koni shocks. In the rear go with 28 mm torsion bars and new koni shocks. You re index the torsion bars to get the ride height you want.

Front suspension is rather easy, but the torison bar job is a BIG one. Coilover is the rear can be a big job and expensive one since if you want to lower the car and add coilovers you will most like reindex the bars which is the same work as changing them.

To lower the car on the cheap..
Get 200 lbs springs that lower the car by 1". Then mess with the rear spring plate to lower the back to relevel the car. It should work and only cost $100-$15 bucks for parts. Labor will be extra. You can do it yourselft, but you will need an aligment after you do this. You can get by with the stock shocks, but the new ones are better very little extra labor to install.

FYI on a 944 rear coilover are NEVER a CHEAP solution.

thanks a lot to Blue S2 and M758 for the good advice. Blue, i think you sold me on the SFR setup then... i'm going to call them up and see what they can do for me i need to buy a new computer for myself first... college starts up again soon, but i'll get it in late august then. One last question, did you go for the round or oval muffler? and did you go for the round or oval tip?

To M758, very helpful insight. As far as springs and shocks, i'd feel comfortable installing them myself but i don't know the first thing about messing with the torsion bars, i'm going to have to spend some time familiarizing myself with them before i go tooling around with them. If the coilovers are out of my range (financially) then so be it, i'll see if i can go with the lowering springs/koni shocks in front and 28 mm torsion bars/koni shocksin the rear then. This is something i'll do maybe around decemberish..

anywho, thanks again Rennlisters
