Default Differences between oil filter console housing over models?

I have a replacement engine for my 89 S2 - it's a 91 model engine.

The oil filter console housing is very different between the 89 and 91 models. The 89 has a part number 951 107 151 3R, and the 91 part number 944 107 156.0.

The two look quite different, the main differences being the oil cooler hoses attach via an o ring 'plate' in the 91 and by AN style fittings on the 89. The oil pressure switch on the 91 is at the rear and on the side on the 89.

The parts catalogue doesn't mention the 89 console as being different from 90-, although there is a different part number for the oil lines for each.

Does anyone know if the 89 console will fit onto the 91 block without modification?

Another question, it seems that Porsche redesigned this for 90- so you could remove the oil lines easier. The 89 appears to require the whole housing to be removed so the oil lines can be removed? There doesn't appear to be enough clearance to remove these without pulling the console out (or engine out which is what I am doing anyway). Anyone had trouble removing the AN style cooling lines before?

It sounds like on your MY91 you have a 968 housing and cooler.

The 89 has the o-ring plate on the cooler side and separate lines to the housing. The 91 has the o-ring plate on the housing and separate lines to the cooler. The reason is that the later cooler has connecting on either side of the cooler and the early they are on the same side.

Either way its designed so you can disconnect the oil lines easier than having AN fittings at both ends, that would be a pain. The plate at one of the ends facilitates easy removal.

The blocks are the same so both should bolt right up to either engine, just change the lines and cooler to suit.

Might just replace the cooler lines as the old ones will surely leak soon if I don't. Except they are $400! Ouch.
