Default How do I CAREFULLY remove those plastic caps on the screws?

Yes, I am particular and yes I am asking this question.

The caps that go on the screws that hold the headliner in place, specifically the one in the rear area nearest the hatch...

Has anyone figured a way out to carefully remove those without scratching the plastic cap itself, or worse, the leather around it? I have tried a very small this needle-like tool, and I can't get enough of the tool under the cap to pop it out of place.

Just don't want to do damage to the car. Thanks in advance.

Matt

Fingernails? I removed this same panel yesterday and was able to get all but one with fingers and a lot of cursing. Used a small flat bit screwdriver for the last one.

Note there are two screws near where the sunroof gears retract, oriented hoizontally. I did not see them at first - only removed the five screws oriented vertically into the roof. Don't miss the other 2.

Thanks, but I cannot get them out with my finger nails (got one, others are stubborn). And the attempt with a small flat head marred the plastic cap.

Any other ideas would be helpful.

Hey Matt,

I second what curtisr said. I had a set similar to this while working at Harry Williams Imports. It's a must especially for the newer 98 and up cars, because everything just pops together and breaks when you try and pop it apart.

Robert! Good to see you on here. I'll give that kit a try, and let you know how it goes. I don't have a sunroof issue, just a little bit of the liner on that aft piece is separating, I want to nip it while it's small.

Thanks!

Matt
