Default Aftermarket Water Temp Gauge

Has anyone installed an after market water temp gauge? I'm looking for the best way to connect one. How did you do it? Is there an electronic gauge that can be tapped in to the existing wiring? Just looking for something more accurate than the stock dash gauge. Thanks!

I have an Autometer water temp gauge that's run off an inline sensor spliced into the upper rad hose. Works flawlessly and give readings very close to stock.

I used an aluminum sensor housing from Mishimoto to mount the sensor.

I drilled and tapped the existing sensor hole to take an autometer temp probe in the stock location. Works well and I like that it gives me temp whether the ignition is on or not. I can watch the temp even after turning the engine off.

The existing (stock) temp probe has 2 wires coming out of it. Don't these go to the DME which uses this info for cold starting? I thought about installing it here, but wasn't sure if I would cause other issues.

The DME cold start info is from the blue sensor on the driver side of the block

Also, use the sender that is made for the gauge. Otherwise the resistance will likely be off. If the sender doesn't fit in the existing spot, you can usually get a thread adapter.

Take care, <---- now watch Gawernator troll me

Good advice. I think I have everything figured out now.

Can you explain what we're seeing in the picture?

I put in an Autometer gauge over the summer and just now it's broke. The backlight lights so I know the gauge is getting power but no reading even after driving ten miles.

Rather than accessing the existing port again I want to do it in the radiator hose but:

1: Which hose do you insert the Mishimoto adapter into?
2. It's 38mm, Is that a standard size for all 944T (the hose that the adapter goes into?)
3. Do they sell a gauge, meter, and harness as well or are you on your own to get those? I know with the autometer I had to buy a separate adapter from Lindsey

Well, you know you have power to your gauge light, but that is not tied into the power for the actual gauge. Sounds like you might just need to recheck power and ground along with the sensor wire to the gauge itself.

The inline aluminum housings look interesting but I like s14kev's idea....which I assume is the bottom of the exchanger.

Has anyone used the block drain for the sensor or the bleed screw?

....for it to be rocket science, you have to have rockets.

can anyone tell in my setup which hose should I put the Mishimoto adapter into since there's two hoses coming out from the top?
