If you have some trouble pm Joes. He also lives in Birmingham and is really good with toubleshooting the 944. (you can also try the led trick I post a couple weeks ago to test the flywheel sensors)

Ok. I have found an 86 that we are also considering. It is a low mileage (100k) that has been owned by a young Porsche mechanic for a year and has been brought up to date w maint but is in need of paint and has some light damage to the pass rocker in front of the rear wheel. The int is nicer and it is a driver. I think it can be bought for 2000. I am still very interested in the red car for 800 but this one just popped up too. Decisions decisions..... Any thoughts?

HA! Great idea! It actually crossed my mind. this is the CL ad for the 86. I guess the Fuchs are better than the phone dials on the 85.5.

The rims are worth around $800.00 by them self, new tire are around $250.00 to $400.00 if all the services are up to date (water pump, front seal's and belts) then you have a great start on the black car! Then you also have test parts to get the red car running with out have to buy a bunch of unneeded parts! Then you and the boy will both have fun cars to play with
don't tell your wife I told you to get both

I was being modest on the low side, I was able to pick up a set of 951 Fuchs with new tire for $365.00 shipped, so I guess I'm a little off of the knowing on the rims prices. Yes I was jazzed when I received them

I think the fuchs desirability has decreased slightly as well as the price because the tire selection is getting more limited on the 16's. I may be wrong. I think $800 is a good safe number to quote.
Both look like good deals if you can do your own work. A decent paint job will be expensive if you have to hire it out. If you can do your own work wrenching, I would go for the $800 one. If you have body shop skills in addition to the wrenching skills, buy them both. It would be nice to swap parts for quick diagnosis.

I wouldn't be so liberal in fuch value. With that car, if those are real Fuchs, consider them for their worst case senario which would be more like $500 value.

On the 86 he says everything works but the AC and it did work until the compressor started making some noise last month. He said it has a slight oil leak in the front and it is either the cam seal or the balance shaft seals. He just did the TB service and replaced the crank seal then. He is willing to drive 60 miles to meet up. I am still waiting for some more pics of the 85.5 before I truck out to get it. It has gotten a color change from bronzit to red, so I am asking for some more pics to see how they did. He also mentioned that the Fuchs had a "double lip" in the back and that made them rare? I did not know what he was talking about.

One more thing, I have had nothing but success when working with Travis from Rennbay. Give him and call and he can track down anything for you and at a good price.

the "double lip" in the back is how they are supposed to be - the rear wheels are a wider wheel than the front, but they use the same size tires - that is how my 85.5 car is configured (but it's 15 inch wheels, also Fuchs)

Ok. I made a deal on the 86 model for 1800.00. We are picking it up tomorrow am. I will post pics when we get it. It is an 86 w 95k miles and it reg just needs some tlc and paint. It has been owned by a porsche mechanic and is up to date on maint. Everything works but the cruise and the air. No cracks on the dash and the int is pretty squared away. The 85.5 had a pretty roached int and the paint was a color change from brown met that they did not do the door jambs/ under hood any thing. I wish they had left it brown. Anywho I a May be able to get that one for 600.00. I may consider it too. Thanks again for all the help. I will keep you posted.

If they're real fuchs, get that car for $600, sell the fuchs for $600, and you have a free parts car to use parts as needed / make profit as not needed
