![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Hi again!
Just wondering what, if any, useful parts can be salvaged from a 924 for use in a 944? Such as: transaxle/transmission, steering rack, CV joints, body parts, glass?
Is there a cross-reference available anywhere?
Thanks.

From a 1981-1982 (NOT a 1980) 924 Turbo you can take:
From all 924s you can take:
From some (i don't remember what years) 924s you can take:
This is all that comes to mind.
I have not seen an interchange list.
- Torque Tube
- Tranny? I think so.
From all 924s you can take:
- Glass (not windshield in post 1985.5 944s)
- Interior (not in post 1985.5 944s)
- Doors
- Mirrors? for some years.
From some (i don't remember what years) 924s you can take:
- Some rear suspension pieces.
This is all that comes to mind.

CV joints and drive shafts
front crossmember (early only)
a-arms all 924 and early(up to 1985.5 944) with minor mods (brackets for sway bars on the 924, holes for sway bar links on 944)
Doors and glass. but not handles or lock mechanisms
tail lamps and headlight mechanism
windshield washer pump (but really not worth it..factory pump was crap)
inside door panels are not interchangable due to the addition of electric windows in the 944 line
rear hatch and associated parts
some switches--headlight comes to mind, but most need replacement
ac condensor (with minor mods)
The 1983 944 had manual steering, but I think the rack was unique.
seats and seat mechanisms
I am in the process of moving, so my books are packed away but I do remember that Auto Atlanta used to have a lot of good info in their 924/944 catalog. There were tech hints, one of which was which tranny/driveshaft combo would work in which year/model. For example, the 80-82 five speed will bolt directly into the 77-78 four speed. Beware the 1979 5 speed tranny. High failure rate, as is the 1980 turbo five speed. The 1980 turbo tranny can be replaced with a 944 assembly directly.
There's probably more, but that is all I can think of at 12:43 in the AM
Cheers

I though I should point out that the torque tube for the 924 Turbo is the same as the 944. But the torque tube for the 924 NA is different. The drive shaft is a different size. This means you can not bolt up a 944 tranny to a 924 NA, but you can a turbo.
I have it on good faith that the front cross member is not the same (from someone who put a 944 engine in a 924).
Oh yea, and every 924 I have seen has had electric windows, Bob S. your post confused me.
One more thing to add to the list: Sunroof. The 924 sunroof was the same one used in the 1983 944 (manual). And it will fit in all model years. In fact, the PO installed one in my 1987.

Sorry...Sunroofs are NOT interchangable (only the manual ones are, and most 944s are electric).
The 924 part(manual) # is 477 871 021
Electric(944) #944 564 021 01
However, some of the hinges/fasteners are as are the wind deflector hinges....
Cheers!!

Bob, what I meant is that: You can unlatch the manual sunroof from a 924, and latch it on a 944.
As I said, my 1987 944 has a manual. And Porsche did not offer a manual from the factory that year. At least, I was told that they were only offered in 1983 when I asked. Anyway, my car has the motor, the cable, and the micro switch as remnants.
