Post Purchase Advice Needed

I have found an 87 951 that suffered a broken timing belt. The owner has all service records since new. It appears to have been maintained extremely well. The interior is almost perfect. The drivers seat shows minimal signs of wear (no cracks or tears). The odometer shows about 150k and the records support that mileage. The owner had the belt replaced about 25k miles ago. He said he was sitting at a stoplight on his way home from work and the car just died. It was towed to the dealer that performed the belt swap and they informed the owner of the bad news. Needless to say, she was quite upset. What should one pay for a vehicle in this condition? I know condition is everything, I just need a ballpark dollar figure.

Thanks Justin

For a 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo with 150,000 miles on it:

Retail KBB: $7,150
Wholesale KBB (excellent condition): $4,025

So, just take these numbers and subrtact the cost of the repair. Call around, I don't know how much it will cost for someone else to do it.

I would be doing the work. I am a former BMW tech. I might try to find another engine to transplant into this car, if I can get it at the right price.

Usually, you need new valves. Occasionally you need new pistons.

Intake valves are $57.60 a piece. Exhaust valves are $79.60 a piece (at Pelican Parts).

A rebuild from huntley racing is $500. Keep in mind that if this car hasn't had it's head rebuilt yet it needs it.

So:
57.6(4) + 79.6(4) + 500 = $1048.8

Also, you could have many performance enhancements done while the head is off at huntley racing.

If your pistons are shot, I am not how much $$$. I have never heard of a broken cam shaft resulting in a 944, but you never know.
