fuel line recall or update?
My 1987-944S all of a sudden became hard to start hot and I started to smell fuel, after looking under the hood yesterday I noticed that 1 of the 2 fuel lines that lead to the fuel rail looked like a snake had eaten a pig and was dripping fuel!!! It is the line that is closest to the firewall.I seem to remember something about a recall or update that Porsche had put out,can anyone shed some imfo on this? Thanks

That recall was posted back in the early 90's... I know it was for the 951, but perhaps other models too.
You should look into some Stainless lines from Speed Force Racing. Well worth the money, and I think cheaper than the stock replacement.

They changed the rubber and fittings on the fuel line. I'd would scan the archives on it as we got to the bottom of the issue as I recall. Also, it was a recall from Porsche, so... If you call PCNA and give them your VIN, they can tell you if it's been done on your car.
It's a serious issue, I know of a few rennlisters that have had car fires as a result. Be careful and good luck.
Keep the shiny side up,

I thought the recall was the little hose from the damper to the fuel rail.....I can't remember for sure. I used a caliper to measure the diameter of the metal fuel lines. One was 5/16 inch and the other was 3/8 inch.

Thanks everyone, good advice.I will call PCNA and see if they have a record of this being done on my car, also will look into the SS lines,in the mean time she is staying in my garage,no Porsche torch here.

Well I had some free time this morning so I started to remove the fuel line and the end mounted to the fuel rail with a clamp fell apart in my hands,I can not believe how close I was to a potential fire!!I consider myself a pretty good shadetree mechanic and look the car over often, but I completely missed this.Checking the fuel lines in the engine compartment should be on everyones checklist,it is on mine now!
