Post Turbo S engine into 87 Turbo

Is it posible to easily convert a turbo into a Turbo S. Would it be a straight forward swap assuming one had a complete Turbo S engine w/ computer and harness, etc.?

Thanks

No problem....physically the two are identical as to mounting points. Heck, there are a lot tougher engine swaps...I saw a 356 with a Corvair turbo stuffed in it many years ago.

sprbxr: Why? It is my understanding that the only difference between the engine code 951 engine and the engine code 952 engine is the turbo charger and the DME.

Is there something else that I missed?

It would be very easy, but why? In my opinion, the extra power offered from the 951S engine setup is not the best improvement in the 951S. If you just want more power, it would be much easier to make mods to your 951 engine(chip, turbo, MAF, etc.). If you want a stock car, then yes, the 951S is better, but if your going to mod the thing anyways, it doesn't make a huge difference(powerwise). Also, if you are going for an entire 951S convertion, you would have to replace too many things to mention(turbo, brakes, suspension, transmission, etc, etc, etc.)

Good luck whatever you do.

I don't see any advantage in this kind of swap. It's much more cheaper to upgrade your 951 engine. There are few differencies in 952 engine compering to 951.Turbo and DME&KLR chips are different as Tabor mentioned. There is olso little bit differencies in cylinder head, valves are slightly larger and if i can remeber correctly intake and exhaust ports are olso larger.
Save your money and upgrade your 951 engine.

If all you want is extra power, it'd likely be cheaper to modify your existing 951 engine. But from what I've read, the 952 had several other goodies that the base 951 (non-M030) didn't always have... LSD, brakes, suspension, better-made gears (1st, maybe 2nd), tranny cooler at least. Not sure if ABS & aibags were standard or optional on the 952. But if you really want an 'S', there's gonna be a lot more than just an engine swap.

Jim, going from memory here....

Jim: dual air bags and ABS were standard on the 1987 944 Turbo.

Unfortunately not true. ABS was an option in 1987, and about the only option my car does not have (dangit).

Oh well, guess I'll have to learn to drive.

No the turbo S didn't have 16V heads, even the awsome 968 Turbo S only had 8V heads.
