does a 944 s2 have a a belt driven valve train or chain driven?

both isn't it? chain between the two cams and belt to the pulley?

Yup, you're right.

Cam belt like every other 944 series car, plus a chain that drives the intake cam from the exhaust cam.

turbo944s2, both responses are correct, but the S, S2 differ in respect that the camshaft drive sprocket is slotted at the cap affixing location and the woodruf key slot in the gear has about 10 deg of roatational travel to accomodate "degreeing" of the camshaft timing..
