Post How are Yokohama A032R tyres compared to high performance street tyres?

I am considering changing to racing tyres. How are the Yokohama A032R compared to high performance street tyres. I know they offer better grip and wear out faster, but how much?

Have anyone tried the new Bridgestone Potenza RE540S?

Tyres are expensive in Norway, any good internet sites where I might find these cheap?

My buddy has a set(ao32r's) on his s2. I think they last longer than my so2's. (and some people even say I drive like a grandpa.)

and they look aggressive as hell. <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

They're by far the best tires I've ever used. I've had the ones on the front for a month and one autocross, just put some rears on 30 mins ago at work. I've still gotta heat cycle the rears [ ] but they're already super sticky. They're LOUD, they ride harsh, but those things don't bother me. I've put about a thousand miles on the fronts and one autocross, they've both got 5/32 treadwear left...they start with 6/32. I've heard of people getting between 12 and 20 thousand miles out of these tires plus TONS of 1/4 mile passes or track days. The first 1/32 of tread wore pretty quickly but I think they'll slow up now and settle in. Less tread on the track is what you want anyway, it dissipates heat more rapidly. I think you'll love the tires if you don't mind their aggressive attributes [some would say 'trade-offs']; I'm running 225/50 front and 245/45 rear.

EDIT: And for comparison purposes, I've used Dunlop SP-8000 [crap], Pirelli P-700 [crap], Yokohama AVS Int. [outstanding], S-02 [the best], Conti SportContact [crap], but never Michelin tires so I dunno...outta my price range.

032R is not as " Grippy " as the other R compound tires( Hoosier/ Kumho, Goodyear. BFG)
but " Grippier " than the Best street tires.

Hoosier and Goodyear R tires would not be a practical
tires for the street. They would wear out too quickly and would be pretty hairy in the rain.

Kumho Victoracer V700 is a good street/track tire.
Cost less than 032R and Grippier.( not quite as grippy as the Hoosier and Goodyear but less expensive)

Good luck.

Yah, the A032Rs are grippier than just about every street tire out there. About 3-6 seconds faster in lap times on most tracks. They're about 1 second behind the semi-slick R-compound tires though (Hoosiers, Kumhos, BFG R1,e tc). But they have a full tread, so you can actually use them in the rain. And as a rain tire, nothing else even comes close! So it's a good all-around competition tire when you have to drive to the track and back. That's also why it's the spec tire of the Touring class in the <a href="http://www.opentrackchallenge.com" target="_blank">Open Track Challenge</a> <a href="http://www.opentrackchallenge.com/field.new.htm" target="_blank">http://www.opentrackchallenge.com/field.new.htm</a> <a href="http://www.opentrackchallenge.com/profiles/team951.htm" target="_blank">http://www.opentrackchallenge.com/profiles/team951.htm</a>
