Steering feels like it's binding/sticking when turning wheel to the left
#17
After I did my rack, I had a binding crunch noise and it was the heat shield was still loose and getting caught in the steering column. Doesn't sound like your issue, but I thought I would throw it out there.

Travis from Rennbay (great guy, and I would highly recommend Rennbay to anyone with a 944/968) had an interesting theory - he thinks the strut bearing or the spring itself might be binding up as I'm turning the wheel, and then releasing. Sounds like an interesting theory, as this is definitely something I had completely apart (replaced the stock parts with 700 lb/in Eibach springs and Moton dual-adjustable Clubsprot struts, plus the Racers Edge heavy duty A-arm, and spherical caster blocks). The only question is, what's the best way to test this, as I'm having a hard time reproducing the problem in my garage - I guess I'll have to take it to someone with a lift that lifts the car up by the tires. Anybody ever experienced a binding spring or strut bearing? I wonder what could cause something like this.

Cloud9...68, I have the same problem in a BMW E36. I have this stick/bind when I turn left when the car is not moving. After the sticking is "jumped" it does turn normally and smoothly. It does it from every steering position, not only on 12 o'clock. When the engine is not working, the sticking is not present.
Did you ever found what was the cause?

Someone with this issue found that the steering shaft yoke was not fully seated on the rack splines. It had been tightened down without the crossbolt in the provided groove in the splines. Scary! Basically could have come off over a bump or the like and then no steering. The extra length due to the shaft not being seated caused binding at some points.
