I am trying to figure out my 88-951 vin. There is no sticker in the trunk and I can't find anything in the front wheel well.
all I have is the VIN which doesn't match with the Pelican Parts site info.
Does any one know where to find this info online. Or if there are any specialist out there my VIN is WPOZZZ95ZJN100298.

You have ZZZ in positions 4 thru 6 which are invalid to determine the "general series", engine and restraint system. That ZZZ is the numbering they put on the body/frame, for US cars anyway. But the actual VIN on the A pillar will be different for these - would think that applies to "rest of world" market cars also.
That Z in position 9 is a check digit, which again is the body one, US VINs have a number rather than alpha.
Is this the number that is showing up on your title? I have heard the body VIN described as the "European VIN", so maybe they don't assign descriptors to rest of world cars.
In any event, that is why your VIN is showing up as invalid on US VIN data bases. What are you trying to figure out? If it is options that came on the car having the US VIN will not help you, but if you write to Porsche they can tell you what was in the build based on the number you have since that serial number is unique.

rufrob,
WPO is the world manufacture code for Porsche.
ZZZ is the code for a "rest of the world" delivery which for Porsche would include Japan
95 is the first 2 digits of the model no. (951)
Z is call the test code or filling character
J refers to a 1988 model year (E is '84. F is '85, G is '86, H is '87, I is skipped)
N is a code for the place of production
1 is the 3rd digit of the model no. (951)
00298 is the serial no. your car was the 298th of the 1988 951's produced
And there you have it.

Thanks a lot guys.
Now I will try the Porsche Dealer in Tokyo to get a recall check and manufactured date. I plan to import it to Canada next year.
