Craig,
Nice car. I am in agreement with the others, keep it as-is and use your $$ for maintanence(sp?) Clean, original early 944s are harder and harder to come by. At the PVGP an (almost-flawless) early Guards 944 garnered just as much attention/admiration as the tricked-out turbos and 911s.

I have never been one for keeping my 944 stock. I guess this is because it has more potential than resale value.
Anyway, I still think that if you are looking for handling, you need to get some 16" Fuchs. Would those be stock enough MAS?

For the most part, I agree with Tabor. If I didn't think 16" Fuchs are the best looking wheel on a 944, I wouldn't have put them on my car. For handling, the 15" fuchs aren't too different(more sidewall, but lighter), and from what I hear your cookie cutters don't weigh much more. The one thing that caught my eye is your center caps, IMHO black ones would look nicer, but it's just an opinion, others may vary. Rest of the car looks great, maintain it and you can't go wrong.

Great looking 944 Craig. I still think it's cool that in a world of Civic and Type Rs yet another man like yourself picks the 944. I'm not sure if Tabor experienced the same thing, but when I first got mine when I was 17 people either liked it or hated it, and if they hated it they made it known. I just brushed it off, so don't let it get to you. I remember some jerk asked me if I got my car at KMart, as he drove away in his dinky v6 Mustang his mommy and daddy bought him. Ha.

Dave: My main reason for saying that 16" wheels will improve performance is that their is a wider selection of performance tyres available for them. But also (as you mentioned) there will be less side wall flex.
Matt: I don't hang out with many "car people". I spend most of my time with Techie/Nerd/Computer people. But I do have a few friends who are interested in cars. Of them, no one said anything bad about it (in fact, one owns a 924). However, some of my co-workers expressed thier opinions. Which were valid, they could not understand why I would spend so much time/effort/money on a car that wasn't even worth that much. Which is a valid point of view.

Yeah, of course. I just think that Fuchs style on the earlier cars looks very cool. What I meant was to resist the temptation to put non-Porsche aftermarket rims on the car.

I wouldn't do that anyway ;-). Where would I go abouts getting 16" Fuch's? I see alot of 16" Phone Dials and stuff for sell in classifieds, mainly I guess what I want to know is how much?!

A set of four can be had for between $500 and $1000. Ebay is usually towards the high side. But sometimes you get a deal. I think there is a company that advertises in Excellence that they sell Fuchs.

I was wondering about what people think about the look of the fuchs wheels. They seem very outdated and plain to me. My friends with 944 cars have expressed the same thinking. You can go with turbo twist wheels or 993 cups for a beautiful look without loosing noticeable performance. Yes, they are heavier, but with a few performance mods, you make up for added weight. I will try to post pictures of mine. With the addition of the 17 inch twist wheels, it makes the car look like a newer model Porsche. With low-prof tires, you get stiff and stable handling. I think the brilliant silver finish used by Porsche looks far better than the plain black undistinguished Fuchs wheel.
