And, yes, the tires are skinny 205's. The PO had 205's all around even though the front wheels are 7 x 16 and the rears are 8 x 16. I'm going to go ahead and wear them out a bit more before I put 215's on this summer.

PorscheG96, I have 16 x 7 and 16 x 8 phone dials. The inside of the fuel cap says 205s in front and 215s in back. Will 225s fit on the 16 x 8 wheels, or are they suited for 16 x 9s?

You can go with 225/50ZR16's up front and 245/45ZR16's in the rear (that's what I have on my turbo - they fit fine). The stock sizes on the 7" front and 8" rear wheels are 205's and 225's. Most people move up to the 225's and 245's when they need new tires.

Cool, I give it a thought. But since thinner tires are better in the snow, I may stay on the skinny side.

Even with the 205s all around right now I have never in the year I have had the car heard the tires squeel in turns. Now granted, I'm no speed racer and my car is an automatic, but I have been pretty impressed with the current grip. I do want to get it back to at least stock 205/215 combination.

Is there any thought that maybe my car is labeled for those tire recommendations since it is an automatic? It's an 88, and the 205/215 numbers are posted on the gas cap.

 

I've got the 205/55 & 225/50 combo, and even for autox its enough for an NA, leave the 245s for the turbos.
