Post 951 brake caliper rebuild question

It appears that the front calipers from an 86-87 944T use some type of a metal retaining ring to hold the piston dust boot in place. How does one remove that ring? Is the new boot/ring simply pressed into the groove in the caliper housing?
Thanks,
Bill Leonard

The ring justs holds the dust cover on. Use a small screwdriver or a pick to slip the ring off. New rings and dust covers will come in the O/H kit. Make sure you lube the piston and the inner seal when you reassemble the caliper. I would caliper assembly lube instead of brake fluid. Good luck
