It takes engergy to make energy. The energy of escaping exhaust gasses is otherwise wasted, but in a turbocharged car it is used to push more air into the motor, creating more air, creating more boost, creating more power, creating more air, etc. etc. until redline. A supercharged car uses the torque of the motor to drive a compressor instead of the exhaust gas, so instead of using wasted energy, it uses
energy the motor is making, so your total power output on a s/c motor versus a turbocharged motor will be higher in the turbo motor because it is using energy that would be otherwise wasted instead of engery the car is trying to put to the ground, therefore is more efficient.

I concur with Ribs...but using a Supercharger on a N/A sounds like a great compromise to a 951...

Turbos heat the intake gas more so than superchargers. I am not sure how much though.

Well, I remember something about the factory doing some testing with superchargers. Some of you guys out there have those papers/articles. I also remember that Mercedes and their aftermarket tuners chose to do supercharging rather than turbo because they wanted linear power delivery rather than top-end and turbo lag. I suppose no crazy power when the turbo kicked in such as the 930's. And Mercedes use Eton superchargers since they are luxury cars.

Sounds like you guys are going to try integrating a Z-engineering blower onto a 944 NA. I actually called them 6 or 8 months ago regarding such a kit.....at that time they told me they could not make them fast enough. A simple setup could be to use the blower, adjustable pressure regulator, high flow injectors, and a few other steps, and you will have a reasonably reliable conversion.
