Angry new hood badge

anyone out there have any experience with changing the hood badge?

got a shiny new one recently thinking it would be an easy job, but when i made a real attempt at it, i couldn't figure out how to remove the panel where the badge is attached.

any advice would be much appreciated.

thanks,

you shouldnt need to remove the panel....and on n/a cars...you cant.

There are 2 holes in the panel. 2 plastic bushings go in then the badge.

Removing your old one is just a matter of prying the old one off. This may be difficult if it has been repainted and there is a large paint edge.

NOTE: Apply 2-3 layers of masking tape around the old badge to keep from damaging the paint. use a putty knife or even a regular knife to get under it and work it loose. You may want to put some tape on the tool you are using too.
Clean the surface of loose dirt, if there is an outline of the old badge, now is a good time to use some white rubbing compound and polish the area. It will be hard to do it later.

Good luck.

Post a pic, before, after, during.

Some of the earlier cars had nuts on the back of the badges, PIA. 85.5 and later center panels on NAs remove the same as turbos and S2s. If the badge does not come up easily, you may have nuts on the reverse side. Good luck!

The following comments pertain to my '87 n/a. I was able to take the nose piece off my car. It wasn't that difficult following instructions elsewhere on some message boards. On my car, the emblem is held by two "grommets" or "bushings" in the sheet metal through which pass two posts on the back of the emblem. I was able to cut the grommet material away from the back side and then tap lightly on the emblem to get it to come away from the body part. I don't know if you can access the back side with the nose piece on the car. As tight as they were in there, I would go very carefully if I were going to try prying it away from the top side. Of course, if you're replacing it you may not care about the emblem itself but be careful of your paint and bodywork.

b - directions for removing the nose panel off of a 951(should be the same):

(1) Remove four screws at the top of the nose panel.
(2)Turn head lights on.
(3)Pry out rubber strip in front of headlights. This will reveal two 8mm nuts.
(4)Remove the two 8mm nuts.
(5)Inside of the nose panel there is a 10mm bolt that attaches the nose panel to the fender.Remove this.Remember to get both sides.
(6)Sometimes there are two 10mm or phillips screws toward the center of the nose panel. These are accessed with the headlights up.
(7)Slide nose panel forward and off.
(8)Installation is the reversal of removal.

hope this helps...

good luck!
