Post OT: Just a little thought on 944 'dragging'.

I was extremely bored a few days at school and I just started writing some stuff down and making up little 'theories' I guess you could say. In the few days I came up with a few things that I'm sure aren't real scientific because they don't take alot of things into consideration, but it seems to make some sense...

143bhp 944 @ 2945lbs.: 0-60 in 8.1 seconds right?
So I started with that and some other cars from the 944 series and just started using numbers and ratios and came up with this. For any of those wondering what is 'achievable' from a 944.
Pretty much, I THINK, you're going to have to have ~194bhp with the rest of the car stock to run ~6.0 0-60. That's really, not possible if you ask me. So I just started writing down a few 'make believe' cars and their specs, and oddly enough they seemed to look alright to me as far as believable and accuracy...

Ca - 143bhp @ 2945lbs. - 20.6lbs/1hp: 0-60 in 8.1 seconds.
Cb - 194bhp @ 2945lbs. - 15.2lbs/1hp: 0-60 in 6.0 seconds.
Cc - 169bhp @ 2945lbs. - 17.5lbs/1hp: 0-60 in 7.0 seconds.
***-Now assuming 100lbs can be lost from a car by removing the following items: 1) All sound deadening material ~30lbs 2) Top half of back seats + rear seat belts ~30lbs. 3) Spare Tire + Jack & Tools + Rear carpet ~40lbs.
Cd - 143bhp @ 2845lbs. - 19.9lbs/1hp: 0-60 in 7.8 seconds.
Cx - 163bhp @ 2845lbs. - 17.5lbs/1hp: 0-60 in 7.0 seconds.
Cy - 169bhp @ 2845lbs. - 16.8lbs/1hp: 0-60 in 6.61 seconds.
Cg - 194bhp @ 2845lbs. - 14.7lbs/1hp: 0-60 in 5.78 seconds.

If you see this and it strikes your interest and curiousity, go give it a try. I am soon to have a webpage available with a dyno sheet of my car, and with it a list of modifications done to my car. Then I will have a weight sheet from a construction company scanned on a seperate page. To top that off, a drag strip time sheet to scan along with it, so I suggest you jsut wait because none of this has been shown to be CLOSE to right or not...
But here are a few things you can try.
-Remove the 100lbs mentioned above & do the following.
-Ignition, Coil, Wires, Plugs - ~5hp
-Headers, Testpipe, Muffler(2.5") - ~10hp
-Performance Chip + K&N Filter + Injectors (if they're old anyway) + Polish Intake - ~10HP
That should put you right about ~168bhp @ 2845lbs: 0-60 in ~7.
*NOTE: All the hp gains stated above are at the flywheel and are ONLY guesses, but I have read SEPERATE posts about some dyno proof of some of the mods, yet, not done all together. This shoul be much more refined in the days to come when my car is fully operational again(Need to do the belts AGAIN, cuz had to take'em off to fix a leak) and I can get dyno'd and have my car weighed again. Flame away!

Craig,
Nice to see you are back. I just made a post last night under "The bloody heat is killing me" wondering your whereabouts.

When did you decide to get a 951? That is sweet you are getting an 89 as well. Will you be keeping your 944?

Only four more days!!!! huh guy.

The lowest weight I have ever seen on a 944 was 2540 lbs. That would be nice with 200 fly hp.

Yeah I'm keeping the 944, I won't be using for anything more than intown driving I think, my mom is awkward, she doesn't like the 'unsafe' aspects of it. The 951 purchase is on delay - I'm going to drive it Sunday. I didn't decide to get one, it just kinda got presented to me.

Aren't you like 17? How are you affording two cars?

Good on you, man, but damn, I wish I could afford to keep my 944 and get a 951...

Each of those upgrades alone might yield that bump in horsepower, but collectivly you won't get the sum of the individual upgrades. As for the rest of your math, its probably sound enough, as assuming everything else is constant raising the power output and lowering the weight should make a car accelerate faster. Good luck with the 951.

Yes, but I'll bet the gains aren't linear. I have no idea what the plot should look like, but the Universe being what it is (i.e., remarkably perverse) the gain in acceleration is probably something less than Craig's numbers would suggest.
