i think a simple race would solve everything....i say after you <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" /> to him, he'll either
A) <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[nono]" /> (i guess thats a middle finger)
B) <img src="graemlins/oops.gif" border="0" alt="[oops]" /> realize he spoke too soon
or
C) <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> take you out for a beer

In a very calm and bored tone of voice, simply say "yah, yah, nanny nanny foo foo, stick your head in doo doo. Are you done?" If he continues say "well I'll meet you at the track and we can find out, otherwise I'll add cowerdice to your many wondefull personallity traits such as your inferiority complex" Whilst waiving your pinky finger at him. BTW guys, I still don't see what is wrong with VW engineering? Air or water cooled. VWs are one of the largest volumes of the oldest cars on the road still running today. How many other pre 70's or 60's anything do you guys know of that is still on the road in those numbers. Porsche is so great because it is backed by the same engineering spirit, except they are just designed for the track. Didn't the 924 on it's debut at lemans have a record for the least amount of stops for gas, maintenance, etc... it came in 7th? Not bad for a first time out, even if it was originally a VW joint venture. Heck, I like the 914 (the other "not porsche" porsche) cept for the fact that they are so friggin ugly. Sorry for the vent guys. I guess this is a sore point for the whole forum.

Bob,

My understanding is that Porsche designed the 924 for VW to sell. Am I wrong?

Tabor,

Sorry for any confusion, I edited my previous post. I thought it was a joint venture. If this only meant porsche designed it and VW was going to sell it, I don't know. Here is Another perhaps misinformed yet if it is true, quite interesting venture I recently heard of. Tell this to the next harley guy that wants to give youy crap for not driving American. I heard that Porsche engineers helped design the Evo Motor that helped keep harley from going out of business. Any one know about that one? Point is, I'm tired of the "I wear versaci (sp?) so I'm better, or I drive Ferrari so I'm better CRAP. Just thinking about it infuriates me. Maybee you should just Roshambo the little twerp next time you see him Thad. "Hey I'll kick you SQUA in the Nuts! You will Respect my athoritaw". Maybee I should get cartman as an Avatar?

Hi Tabor:

No argument about selling fewer 944 derivatives every year, but I ask myself why? I suspect (no proof) that Porsche artificially inflated the price each year in order to encourage potential buyers toward the 911 series. If true, that would make the demise of the 944/968 what is called a "self fullfilling prophecy". The 944/968 series could outhandle the maniacally defended 911 configuration and, with a more refined engine would have put the 911 series on the shelf rather than the other way around. There was no economic reason to increase the price beyond inflation (or exchange rate differentials) since the body style never changed radically and the dies were fully amortized. Incremental changes were the order of the day, as they are with the 911 which has written off body dies many times over.

I watch the annual cost of the Boxster series increase as well. What will happen over the next few years is anyone's guess.

No argument, just sharing a suspicion

Cheers!

Hey Bob,

Here is what I have been told: Porsche will never lower the price of their cars becuase they don't want to alienate their prior customers. This makes for a big problem when the DM/USD exchange rates fluctuate. The price for the car in the US goes up and never comes back down!

Not saying you aren't correct, just one more point of view.

Thaddeus, several thoughts come to mind:
1. It's unlikely this fellow will dis your car to your face. To much chance of him losing some.
2. You might want to excercise caution lowering people a peg or two in the workplace. He could be your boss in a year. You never know.
3. I don't see that he needs lowering anyway. He sounds rather like a whiny-know_it_all-wannabe without the courage to tell you what he thinks to your face. What exactly could be lower?
4. The high choice, should he offer you the opportunity by challenging the pedigree of your car, would be something along the lines of "That's an interesting opinion, though it differs from mine". No more need be said.
5. Or, just kick him in the nuts, if you can find them....

If you decide to debate him, you might also point out that the Boxster can't be a "true Porsche" by his egocentric definition, since A) the engine is in the wrong place, B) it's water cooled, and C) more than half of them are made in Finland....

Then invite him to share his 'insight' on this matter with any Boxster owners... <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" /> .

Jim, "I don't do steroids; I also don't want a VW that has done them...."

all jabs aside, anyone who has driven a 911 and a 944 for any length of time will agree that they are both porsches, and both have some very similar "porsche-esque" traits.

Putting one or the other down for being inferior is 50% ignorance and 50% ego (ratio may vary depending on location, driving ability and other 'physical' factors )

The best comeback is to get into your car and smile all the way home, because you know you love driving it.

just my $.02

I think they are extremely different though. I have not owned an sc, but I went looking and test drove at least 6 of the suckers. They are EXTREMELY different(both sides of the pcar spectrum). I would like to own both.

How about "My Daddy told me, never argue with a fool, people can't tell the difference." But when Hardly Davidson came to Porsche for a hi perf. engine, didn't Porsche say air cooled is for dinosaurs you have to go water cooled?
