Default Questions on Blaupunkt BEA-80 equalizer / Reno Radio

I just wanted to try and confirm something before sending it out for repair.

I have the Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 tape deck, connected to a Blaupunkt BEA 80 equalizer. As far as I know that was all factory equipment.

The equalizer works correctly except for one feature - the LED level indicators don't light up. I've hardly been able to find any information on this online, but I did find a YouTube video of the same equalizer (different tape deck) which showed the lights working:

If anyone has this unit or knows whether that feature should be working with the tape deck I have, I would really appreciate any information.

If I can't get it working, I was going to send it out to SW stereo specialists in NJ. If anyone has recommendations on them or another shop I'd also appreciate it.

Thank you for any help with this.

I have three Bea80's. One of those i have restored with help of my father in law (he fixed one broken channel). You can easily fix that led problem yourself. Just pull lever out. Then you can also remove led (it's not soldered). Most likely there is just a bad contact or led is broken. Replacement led's can be found from a electric parts stores. I can make a PDF document of the BEA80 user manual if you don't have it, just PM me your e-mail address.
What comes to does BEA80 work with your Reno, i suppose it should. There is two possibilities to connect BEA to tape decks, via 7-pin DIN socket, or two pin DIN speaker terminals. So, BEA should work just fine with all brand decks, not just Blaupunkts.

Thank you very much.

I tested each LED with a battery and all of them seem to light up. I tried tracing the circuit back to the switches, but I don't have a pin diagram to show me what should connect to what if the switch is bad.

It's connected to the reno with a 7 pin DIN socket.

I thought the OEM radios were all Beckers, not blaupunkt - my 944 came with no radio, just a blank panel where the radio goes.

For what it's worth, my window sticker says:

RADIO "RENO" n/c

the guy at the repair shop I talked to correctly guessed the car just from the equalizer model number, so I am wondering if it was only found on certain years/models or something like that?

Cars sold in main land europe & North America factory installed Blaupunkts. Several different models were available. Beckers are 996/Boxster era installations. On UK market Porsche importer installed Panasonic units.

Hello,
I saw this post and was wondering if you had Pin out for BEQ 80? BEQ 80 has 8 pin DIN plug and I am trying to use it with another Blaupunkt of the period but the Left and right and Positive and negative seem to be different.
I have schematic from the radio side DIN plug so if I get one for BEA=Q 80, I can change the necessary wires.
regards

I am from Finland, so my English sucks as well. PM me your e-mail address so i can send you BEA-80 user's manual in PDF-format. It also have an Italian instructions. I also have a Blaupunkt worksheet in which are explained DIN-connector pin layout. If you are not able to use DIN-connector, you can always use BEA-80's speaker connectors to attach amplifer/equalizer to your radio. All of that is explained in the user's manual.
Some BEA's were equipped with a female DIN-connector, so it could be difficult to attach these to various Blaupunkt models. I have converted few BEA's to have a male connector insteadt. Not a big deal, part cost is around one €
