Question 85.5 944 NA restoration questions

I wanted to see if anyone could give their advice on a couple points in a 85.5 944 NA soon to be track car. A little background for anyone interested, it's a 85.5 944 NA that has been sitting still for about a year and a half, it does run though. My brother and I wanted to slowly make it track ready. We're getting ready to do the clutch and motor mounts, ala http://www.tech-session.com/Paragon/...eplacement.htm
and while we're at it a possible lightened flywheel.

1. Can anyone give me their opinions on the condition of the rotor linked below? Should it be replaced, or just spend some time on the grinder? We later wanted to put on some nice big cross-drilled ones, but we were trying to get the feel of the car before we went "great guns" on a suspension/brake upgrade. http://www.geocities.com/rcarmody/Sep08-01.JPG http://www.geocities.com/rcarmody/Sep08-04.JPG http://www.geocities.com/rcarmody/Sep08-05.JPG

2. How bad is it when theres oil in the back corner of the air filter box? It looks like clean oil, not cloudy or milky. http://www.geocities.com/rcarmody/Sep08-02.JPG

3. We're new to this so any tips on the clutch/motor mount job or any tips in general are greatly appreciated!

TIA,
Wookie

I really can't see much there. Are they warped? If not the (what I call) crags aren't an issue - that is exactly what hawk blues will do to them after two events. What I would do is take some emory cloth to them to get the friction material off and buy some hp street pads. These will now be your street rotors I would not have them turned - better off buying new ones for $65 per.

On the x-drilled big brake kits. I would suggest getting a set of Zimmerman blanks (I have been very impressed with these) and some Hawk Blues (or whatever the Pagid equivalent is), some Motul, ATE Super Blue or Ford HD fluid, perhaps some SS lines and I got a sinking feeling you won't want to do anything more than duct some cool air to them.

Best of luck.

Don't spend over $40 for stock Zimmerman rotors, a little shopping can usually find them for $35 - $40 online.

Thumbs up

Just in case you were concerned about the amount of rust, that's not bad at all. I had a ton more on my rotors and hard braking was never a problem.

Ditto on what Adam and Dave said.
