Default 1983 Porsche 944

I just bought a 1983 Porsche 944 with 46 thousand miles it's been sitting for about 7 years and has no keys I ordered the keys but I'm asking Porsche owners what I should do before firing up the car and where I can find parts for this car ?

Timing belt & water pump are your #1 priority..
Change all fluids while you're at it.
Inspect the brake lines for dry rot, or worse, leaks, and replace them if necessary.
New tires, without a doubt. The ones on it now are flat spotted and guaranteed dry rotted if it's been sitting 7 years!

Parts.. the for sale section here, ebay, pelican, the stealership, will all get you going in the right direction. Parts stores can sometimes order the basics, like starters or a head gasket, but don't expect them to get you a new DME if your's is fried. =P

Happy hunting, welcome to the 'list!

All rubber items are probably original and suspect at this point. You should replace the vacuum lines with new silicon lines. Replace the fuel lines in the engine bay.

In addition to that, you need to drain any gasoline and make sure there isn't rust inside the gas tank.

What they said, do not try and start it without pulling the t-belt, flushing all fluids, checking the fuel tank, etc.

there's a reason this car is sitting.... but there's good news; the laws of hot-rodding also apply to the Porsche 944. don't spend 5~9 thousand dollars sorting another junk engine..... do it right the first time by installing a Chevy V8/vortec motor/all aluminum 5.3/LSx and we'll live vicariously through your personal Porsche victory for the next 30~40 years.... good news is that engine is worth at least 200 dollars to a rebuilder, and you should get a few dollars more for the other bits....
congratulations in advance of the glory.

Congrats! You are at a cross path of decision making. Either keep it original and start knocking out all the crucial and routine stuff that need to be done as well as do some preventative maintenance to prolong down time and more road time. Unfortunately, being that it sat for so long it could be a domino effect of issues that will pop up as you go, so all depends on how much you want to spend. Because like od mentioned above it can cost you just as much to drop a V8 in it. Either way you can't go wrong, enjoy your low mileage find!
