Post Is this too much to pay for a 944

Hi
New here & new to 944's.
Ok heres my question.
Is $5,695 too much to pay for a
84 944 non_turbo
that has a bad torque tube?
Everything else seems ok. Also its from a dealer.
Thanks Danny

It's way too much. I got my 83 for $3600, with no major problems. The torque tube is an expensive part to replace(over $1000? someone correct me if i'm wrong) You can find a much better deal on a 944.

YES! An Excellent '87 goes for about $6k.

I wouldn't pay more than $2k for that '84. It is a big pain to change the torque tube. It will probably cost you $1k just in labor for someone to change it.

Way too much!!! I paid less than that for my '88 924S in very good condition (for the most part).

Under $3000.00 at most if everything else is perfect and it has low miles. I would guess that if the torque tube has gone then you may have to or may as well do the clutch at the same time. That equals more money.

How do you know it's the torque tube. If it's an auto, it might be the donut that acts a a vibration damper. N0 big deal, just a $700 part plus labor. Or, maybe it's the rubber disk in the clutch starting to go. Again no big deal, just a $1400 repair job.

After that's done, if the car has less then 75,000 miles on it you would have a great $4,500 car!

I paid $5500 for my '87 with (then) 59,000 miles on it. Perfect stored condition BUT...I had to spen another $1850 on Timing & Balance Shaft belts, Thermostat, all fluids, hose, brake flush, fuel rail hoses, battery, tuneup, etc. etc. So? Be smater than I was. You can get a lot for a lot less than that price. If I were doing it over it would be a 951, even though my N/A is almost perfect!!

Saw your in Fl, what part? For the Tampa, St.Pete, Orlando, Sarasota area, check the papers online early in the day. With northeners coming down for the winter there are a lot of great deals right now. Two weeks ago I saw a 944s with under 100k for $5000, beatiful car, garage kept all records. Just keep looking.
