With winter here, and nothing much to think about I started reading about some the new BMWs. Especially the M's, and what most intrigued me was the sequential F-1 like shifting. Basically a manual with a hydraulic clutch. Does anyone make these things by themselves, so that maybe one could be rigged up to a P-car? How fast are the shifts? I know the ones on the F1 cars are quick, but what about those that can be driven by mere mortals?
Something like this in a 6 speed, mated to SFR supercharged engine would be a pretty unique and cool ride, not to mention fast as anything.

X-Trac makes sequential gearboxes, but they are somewhere in the neighborhood of $10,000 to $25,000. Additionally, the straight cut gears will overwhelm any other noice the car makes (see BTCC in car camera). Finally, I imagine the rebuild schedule is somewhere on the order of 1,000 to 5,000 miles.

Thanks steve, but that sounds more like a race transmission, which I doubt is what BMW is putting in their cars, I was thinking something along those lines.
Tabor: does Quaife's setup more resemble the BMW / hydraulic clutch or a more race tranny?
