Are there any advantages to a vented nose panel?

Thanks for all the good info!! The cost benefit part is interesting. I get an urge every once and a while to sit down with a few engineers who designed these cars and just ask questions and listen to stories. Porsche can be so mysterious sometimes.

The main reason I'm curious is because of the cone/canister filter I'm going to have to stick under the nose piece pretty soon. Don't want to go through the trouble of trying to fit an S2 box in there. Hopefully I'll have options to improve the intake system. Best bet may be to just to leave it non vented.
